Overview

The Chief Appraiser will be responsible for the oversight and evaluation of various valuation processes including appraisal standards, guidelines, techniques and methods for conformance with policies, procedures and applicable laws and regulations.  The Chief Appraiser will oversee audit standards, contribute to the quarterly newsletter, and serve as an advisor appraisal staff and departmental management staff.  Departmental processes will include addendums from clients, audit functions, side by side reviews, as well as other escalated issues.  This position will be monitored by executive management, as quality is paramount.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Interpret and implement Quality Assurance policy and procedures.
  • Ensure resolution of customer quality issues, maintain and improve customer satisfaction as it relates to quality assurance in appraisal products provided
  • Proactively identify appraisal risk markets and trends and identifies solutions with the review process based on this data and actively communicate with President regarding issues identified and recommended solutions
  • Act as an escalation point and assist in production environment handling desk reviews, side by side reviews, tie-out or reconciliation reports, value appeals and more complex reviews based on business volumes and needs
  • Assist, counsel, and train internal staff in matters of quality assurance, including appraisal techniques and methodology
  • Manage the vendor audit process for lenders/clients
  • Involvement on client calls and visits for relationship building, understanding the Client’s priorities and concerns
  • Ensures quality of work provided by independent contractor panel (vendors), and counsels/trains approved vendors to understand underwriting criteria needed to meet specific client guidelines as established
  • Maintain licensure as Certified in good standing, proactively attend required USPAP courses in order to keep license current
  • Maintain good understanding of Appraiser Independence requirements and ensure that all Valuations staff understand and adhere to the requirements in working with independent appraisers
  • Perform all other duties as assigned

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  •  Bachelors degree or equivalent relevant business experience
  • 15-20 years as a state Certified Residential or Certified General Appraiser; SRA or MAI designation is a plus; must hold and maintain a current license in good standing
  • Minimum of 5 years of collateral risk and valuations leadership experience, including AMC, bank, finance lending, or mortgage company experience
  • Management experience of staff and/or other fee appraisers, ability to counsel and train internal staff in matters of quality assurance, including appraisal techniques and methodology
  • Strong analytical ability required to review quantitative and qualitative data and render professional judgments based upon USPAP, regulatory and client guidelines
  • Proven success at changing the client satisfaction experience within large, complex client delivery systems
  • Ability to communicate and interact with officials at all levels of the industry and to work effectively with a wide range of people and groups, all levels within the Company and the Client’s organizations
  • Familiarity using personal computers and current office technology including Microsoft Office products Outlook, Word and Excel.
